JOB SUMMARY:

 

Clemson University's University Development Team is looking for a Director of Development and Unit Lead to support the Advancement Division and the College of Veterinary Medicine by fulfilling the following duties:

  • Serves as Director of Development and Unit Lead within the Advancement Division and the College of Veterinary Medicine. 
  • Provides strategy, leadership, direction, coordination and management of all levels of giving for all units/programs within the College. 
  • Develops priorities and philanthropic strategy in collaboration with critical College Administrators and the Executive Director, implements strategic plans, and inspires stakeholders, support of these priorities to fulfill the College's mission and support their ability to implement programs and initiatives. 
  • Communicates, collaborates and coordinates between the College and Advancement division, as well as creates productive partnerships with other college and unit fundraising programs. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

60% - Essential - Fundraising: 
Manages a dynamic portfolio (150 maximum) of prospects/donors who have the capacity to make a philanthropic major gift. Qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards gifts from College/Unit donors, alumni, and friends through 160-180 visits annually. Raises a minimum of $750k-$1.25M on an annual basis with subsequent years' goals determined in conjunction with the Executive Director. Coordinates cultivation, stewardship and donor engagement opportunities/events for assigned donors and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
30% - Essential - College Leadership and Engagement: 
Establishes strong partnerships with the Dean and strategic leaders within the College. Leads efforts for the unit for the upcoming capital campaign by collaborating with College and supporting unit/program leadership to develop philanthropic strategy that advances the key priorities for the campaign and the College's mission. Engages actively with the Dean and college/unit leaders in the cultivation and stewardship efforts of top donors and prospects. Serves as the primary liaison and mission critical link between the Advancement division and the College and its supporting units/programs.
10% - Essential - Strategic Collaboration and Facilitation: 
Build productive relationships across the university with Deans, administrators, faculty and staff to gain fluency in the priorities and excellence of the colleges, schools, units and areas of Clemson University to articulate giving opportunities to prospective donors. Facilitate and staff meetings with university leaders and prospective donors. Duties include collaborating with Marketing and Communications on print, electronic, and social media materials.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Work Experience: 3+ years in fundraising, development, sales and related work experience in an academic institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Firm Job Knowledge - Firm working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors Budget - Does not provide input but is responsible for monitoring the departmental budget and may oversee fund allocation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  50% - Overnight Travel

WORK SCHEDULE:

 

Standard Hours: 37.5/week

Expected salary range: $ 89,550.00 - $110,000.00

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
