IT Consultant II - Public Safety

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Clemson University CCIT is looking for an IT Consultant II to support Public Safety and fulfill the following duties:

  • Under the general direction of the AVP for Public Safety, assists in effectively planning and executing the computer and IT related application activities and developments of the Public Safety departments.
  • Provides technical, educational, and developmental support to users of computers and related IT equipment.
  • Implements and administers Public Safety IT policies related to technology maintenance and support services within Public Safety.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

JOB DUTIES:

 

40% - Essential - Technical Oversight: Determines appropriate hardware equipment to meet Public Safety project needs. Advises on the purchase of all software packages to meet public safety software needs. Responsible for effective day-to-day operations of all PCs and Servers and Network equipment assigned to Public Safety. Oversees and support various Audio Visual software and hardware programs and services. Oversees and support various radio communications equipment software and hardware services.

30% - Essential - Support & Operations: Creates and maintains an effective inventory system for hardware, software application and licenses. Schedules and maintains the delivery of hardware and software to the appropriate Public Safety departments. Arranges for necessary service when equipment experiences technical difficulty. Reviews and authorizes payment for network equipment and/or software. Review of work request requested through the Help Desk and reporting on the outstanding work requests.

20% - Essential - Project Management: Coordinates and serves project management functions for update and upgrade technology initiatives within Public Safety areas.  Acts as liaison between end-users and Computer and Software Technicians in resolving hardware or software problems. Coordinates the installation and maintenance of all hardware equipment and software package upgrades on personal computers, phones, cameras, radios, and radio tower equipment.

10% - Essential - Collaboration & Outreach: Assists in the research of new application system developments. Stays current on new equipment, software and radio related technical developments. Assists in the development and maintenance of the Public Safety information services budget. Provides periodic updates to senior Public Safety management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education – Bachelor's Degree 

Work Experience – 6+ Years of progressively responsible tech experience in IT and Public Safety; Current certification in one or all the following:

  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).

Certifications are to be kept current as a condition of continued employment. First Class FCC license is a plus. 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

 

Certification, proficiency, or familiarity with the following systems:  Genetec, WebEOC, FCC License and Coordination, Public Safety Radio Systems, Motorola Communications, Cradle Point, Computer Aided Dispatch systems, and Avtec.

100% - Sit (stationary position) for prolonged period

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Will be required to maintain 24x7 communications and availability. This includes after hours call back, support of special events, and emergency incident response as needed to maintain operations.

WORK SCHEDULE:

 

Standard Hrs: 37.5;  Expected Salary Range:  ($ 61,000.00 - $ 70,000.00)
