JOB SUMMARY:

 

Serves as the Assistant Director of the Division, and is the Director of the Animal Health Programs (AHP) Department. Manages the Animal Health Programs to mitigate, control, and eradicate infectious diseases of livestock and poultry by working with program directors and staff in activities including, and is not limited to, livestock and poultry disease surveillance, animal identification and movement, and Extension veterinarian work. Performs other duties as assigned by the LPH Director.

JOB DUTIES:

 

30% - Essential - Program management:
Plans and organizes programs and activities for diagnosis, monitoring, controlling, and eradicating contagious, infectious and emerging diseases of livestock and poultry. Ensures data is properly entered by staff into databases. Regulates and monitors intra and interstate movement of animals. Establishes standards of operation for auction markets, sales, and other concentration points for animals. Reviews existing laws and regulations with the LPH Director periodically and offers updates as needed. Plans and organizes various programs and activities for all Extension Veterinarians in collaboration with Livestock Forages program team and LPH Director.
20% - Essential - Personnel management: 
Manages the AHP employees and completes required university evaluations.
20% - Essential - Outreach and Education:
Represents Clemson University Livestock-Poultry Health, Animal Health Programs, and Veterinary Extension on local, regional, and national committees, at conferences and meetings with individuals, livestock organizations, veterinary organizations, and other external stakeholders. As a member of the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences, supports undergraduate and graduate teaching programs in the University, and collaborates in other research activities for the University.
15% - Essential - Administrative Leadership and Support:
Performs administrative duties and leadership to support efficient operations of Animal Health Programs and Veterinary Extension. Assumes duties of the LPH Director as needed (e.g., travel, annual leave, etc.). Duties include budget planning, managing expenditures, personnel needs and evaluation, supplies and equipment needs, procurement, foster pursuit and management of cooperative agreements and grants as a PI.
15% - Essential - Emergency Management:
Complete annual training and exercises for state emergency operations center and incident management team for Emergency Support Function-17 and animal disease response activities. Works in coordination with the Division's Director of Emergency Management to develop animal disease response plans, assign AHP personnel for training, response and maintenance of supply activities for animal disaster and disease-related events, and assume ESF-17 assignments/duties and participate as a member in the agricultural animal incident management team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education -  1st Doctoral / Professional Degree
Licenses - State Board of Vet Medicine
Work Exp 5+ years

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Expected Salary Range $134,800.00 - $206,100.00
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Essential Level 2 employee
Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
