JOB SUMMARY:

 

Individual brings mechanical skills to serve as a member of the support staff of the Musser Fruit Research Center.  This includes but is not limited to completing: maintenance and repair of farm equipment, farm operations, and facility maintenance.  Maintains close communication with and serves under the supervision of the Farm Manager.  Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

65% - Essential - Equipment Maintenance:
Maintains and repairs farm equipment, machinery, tools, and vehicles.  Plans and organizes operations of the maintenance shop.  Prepares equipment for use and repairs broken farm equipment.  Schedules and completes equipment maintenance.  Maintains equipment safety and compliance with PREC¿s equipment policy.  Keeps detailed maintenance and repair records.
20% - Essential - Farm Operations:
Assists with orchard maintenance activities. Operates farm equipment and vehicles to perform farm operations, including but not limited to: mowing, pesticide applications, orchard removals, and soil preparation.  Assists with fruit harvest and other horticultural operations as needed.
15% - Essential - Facility Maintenance:
Consults with Farm Manager to ensure farm facilities and property are maintained, repaired, and prepared for use.  Assists with farm and orchard infrastructure projects.  Assists with maintaining compliance with Clemson's facility policies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: A bachelor's degree in animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience in animal care or agricultural research may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: Bachelors degree in Agriculture Mechanization, Horticulture, Agriculture Science or other related field. Associates degree with year for year work experience can be substituted for bachelors degree.  

Certifications: Plant Pesticide Applicator
Work Experience: 1+ years

Standard Hours: 37.5

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Anticipated Salary Range: $36,800 - $43,625
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
