JOB SUMMARY:
The Curator of Education pursues the Department of Historic Properties mission through thoughtful, innovative, and research-driven programs and initiatives. As a member of Historic Properties leadership team, this position reports to the executive director and supervises employees in the education section. This position oversees all educational and engagement goals and agendas within Historic Properties. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
40% - Essential - Educational Programming:
Oversees and develops public programs inspired by the museums historic houses, permanent collections, and special exhibitions. Oversees and develops all school programs and relationships with public schools, homeschool families, communities, and specialty schools in our area, ensuring all programs are relevant to state standards and follow educational best practices. Develops, maintains, and routinely updates training materials, including interpretive guides for the houses, educational materials on the Historic Properties website, etc. Develops, implements, and tracks metrics to measure, interpret and analyze the effectiveness and outcomes of education and public programs to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
20% - Essential - Supervision:
Manages, trains, and retains the Historic Properties Tour Guides consisting of student employees and part-time staff, through regular training, review, engagement and recruitment. Develops curriculum to train tour guides. Coaches and mentors tour guides.
20% - Essential - Educational Interpretation:
In collaboration with the Curator of Collections, provides input during the development of exhibitions by actively participating in the creation of educational and interpretive components related to the exhibitions. Co-produces interpretive plans and experience documents for museum projects that articulate big ideas, key messages, visitor outcomes, and interpretive strategies. Assists with the design of engaging interpretive materials and experiences such as interpretive texts, videos, audio and mobile content, participatory learning spaces, website content, and other digital learning platforms.
10% - Essential - Grant Proposals/Administration:
Collaborates with the Advancement team to fulfill all outstanding and ongoing grant requirements related to education and engagement, secure funding for new education and engagement programs, and track participation, outcomes, and other data for use in grant applications and reports.
10% - Essential - Professional Development:
Maintains an awareness of best practices in the field of museum education, continually updating professional development in education, with a focus on areas such as technology, pedagogy, accessibility, and aging.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree - history, natural history, fine arts, arts administration, museum studies, museology or a related field
Work Experience - 2+ years of experience in museum programming and/or an educational setting.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Master's Degree - history, public history, education, museum studies or related field

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Anticipated Hiring Range: $45,300 - $70,000
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
