JOB SUMMARY:
Clemson University is looking for a Data Modeler to fulfill the following duties:
- The Data Modeler will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data models for a cloud-based data warehouse.
- The data modeler plays a crucial role in supporting efficient data management and analytics within the organization.
- This role is essential in optimizing data architecture, translating business initiatives into robust data models, and enhancing data integrity, availability, and performance.
- Responsible for developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MODERNIZING HOW CLEMSON WORKS Workday@Clemson
Clemson University is investing in a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, Workday@Clemson, that supports enterprise-wide modernization of core HR and Finance processes and tasks. We will efficiently and strategically transition to a new system that supports both the efforts of the University's bold strategic initiative ¿ Clemson Elevate, as well as the needs of our students, faculty, staff and partners. JOB DUTIES:
45% - Essential - Data Modeling:
Design, create, and implement logical and physical data models for both IT and business solutions to capture the structure, relationships, and constraints of relevant datasets. Build and operationalize complex data solutions, correct problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing/quality solutions.
25% - Essential - Consultation and Communication:
Collaborate with database administrators and software engineers to implement and maintain data models in databases, cloud data warehouses, and data lakes. Effectively collaborate and communicate with various stakeholders to understand data and business requirements and translate them into data models.
15% - Essential - Documentation:
Create entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs), data flow diagrams, and other visualization tools to represent data models. Develop data modeling best practices, and use these standards to identify and resolve data modeling issues and conflicts.
15% - Essential - Optimization and Performance:
Conduct performance tuning and optimization of data models for efficient data access and retrieval. Incorporate core data management competencies, including data governance, data security and data quality. Conduct code reviews on a regular basis to improve quality and ensure compliance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree in information technology or related field
Work Experience - Experience in business administration, computer science, mathematics, engineering, management information science, networking-telecommunications, and/or data processing. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Work Experience - 5+ Years of experience in data modeling, database design, or related field. Hands-on relational, dimensional, and analytical project experience using RDBMS, NoSQL data platform technologies, and ETL. At least 5 years working with Cloud data warehouse technologies and tools. Experience with Snowflake and Snowpark.
- Proven experience with end to end delivering of data solutions that includes building, managing, and optimizing data pipelines across cloud environments; curating and modeling the data for various types of consumers/products and their pattern of usage to include data marts, data lake, and operational analytic applications.
- Proficiency in relational databases and data structures, including structured and unstructured data formats.
- Strong understanding of data privacy and security
- Expert knowledge of data modeling concepts, methodologies, and best practices
- Proficiency in data modeling tools such as Erwin or ER/Studio
- Knowledge of relational databases and database design principles
- Familiarity with dimensional modeling and data warehousing concepts
- Strong SQL skills for data querying, manipulation, and optimization, and knowledge of other data science languages, including JavaScript, Python, and R
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to gather requirements and align on data models
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve data modeling issues
- Strong communication and documentation skills to effectively convey complex data modeling concepts to technical and business stakeholders

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Expected Salary Range: ($ 83,219.00 - $ 130,000.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
