DIRECTOR OF FIRST - YEAR STUDENT SUCCESS


The Director of First-Year Student Success is a member of the CECAS Office of Undergraduate Studies responsible for driving initiatives to support success of first-year students in the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences (CECAS). Reporting to the Director of Engagement and Student Transitions the position oversees the design, implementation, and management of programs supporting the transition, engagement, and success of first-year students. The role has a substantial impact on the success of college-wide first-year initiatives and provides oversight and management of signature first-year programs, including the Residents in Science and Engineering program. Performs other duties as assigned.

40% - Essential - Program Management:
Develops, implements, assesses, and manages student engagement and transition programs, policies, and procedures for CECAS undergraduate students first-year student success initiatives. Manages the Residents in Science and Engineering program. Responsible for budgeting and fiscal resources related to initiatives supporting first-year student success. (budget oversight $415,000 annually)
30% - Essential - Collaboration:
Partners with internal and external stakeholders to deliver value-added programs and services to support the delivery of exceptional experiences to first-year students. Collaborates with internal stakeholders to drive success across the first-year student experience. Partners to implement impactful academic programs for students in RISE, including cohorted course sections. Works closely with Director of Engagement and Student Transitions to develop impactful resources to support academic, social, and professional development of first-year students. Manages and supports First-Year Student Council.
15% - Essential - Partnership Development and Management:
At the direction of the Director of Engagement and Student Transitions creates effective ongoing planning and relational partnerships to support first-year student success initiatives with academic units within the college. As needed, partners with Undergraduate Learning, Student Affairs, Admissions, Housing Administration, Alumni Affairs, Fundraising/Development. Supports Director to implement innovative approaches to problem-solving and transformative interventions with internal and external stakeholders.
15% - Essential - Supervision:
Serves as lead point of contact for the Residents in Science and Engineering (RISE) program. Supervises Residents in Science and Engineering (RISE) staff and supporting Faculty Fellows. Supervises graduate assistants and provides relevant professional development and training opportunities.
