FOREST OPERATIONS MANAGER


Manages the Clemson University Forest infrastructure including the maintenance of vehicles and equipment necessary for forest operations.  Responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and upkeep of CUF Maintenance Facility as well as public recreation areas, picnic shelters, parking areas, and trail heads. Plans and assists with forestry field operations and directs, operates, and moves heavy equipment to and from job sites for the support of forest management, teaching and research activities, road maintenance, and forest fire protection. Other duties as assigned.

45% - Essential - Forest Maintenance and Repair: Conducts and leads maintenance of forest roads including mowing, grading, and Forestry Best Management Practices implementation. Executes the maintenance and repair of forest field facilities including, but not limited to, public recreation areas, picnic shelters, parking areas, and trailheads.
20% - Essential - Equipment Transport and Operational Management: Transports and operates heavy equipment, and trains and leads others performing activities for the support of forest management, road maintenance, teaching, research and demonstration activities and forest fire protection on the CUF.
20% - Essential - Vehicle Maintenance: Performs, directs, and supervises the maintenance and repair of tagged vehicles, off-highway equipment, and heavy equipment used for forest operations. Orders and stocks parts and supplies. Maintenance and repair of various equipment necessary for the Clemson University Forest operations.
10% - Essential - CUF Maintenance Facility Management:  Maintains and manages the CUF Maintenance Facility including maintenance and inventory records to university standards.  Keeps accurate inventory records of equipment and fulfills audit documentation.  Manages the check in / check out of equipment by staff and other cooperators.  Maintains a safe and orderly shop environment.
5% - Essential - Forest Management and Protection: Assists and helps coordinate prescribed burning and other forest management prescriptions as needed.  Executes wildfire suppression and protection duties, including constructing fire lines with heavy equipment.
