JOB SUMMARY:

 

Clemson University's Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC) is looking for an IT Security Specialist / Analyst III to fulfill the following duties:

  • Serves within the Clemson Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC) as a SOC Analyst to respond to Cyber Security incidents, provide cyber threat analysis, actively monitor security threats and risks, provide in-depth incident analysis, evaluate security incidents, and provide proactive threat research. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

60% - Essential - Monitoring and Operations:
Perform real-time security monitoring, detection and response to security events and incidents within the Clemson University environment. Conduct thorough investigations of security events generated by detection mechanisms such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, XDR etc. Recognize successful intrusions and compromises through review and analysis of relevant event detail information. Differentiate false positives from true intrusion attempts. Launch and track investigations to resolution.  Alert users of intrusions or potential intrusions and compromises. Sort events and escalate incidents after a thorough investigation.
30% - Essential - Collaboration and Mentoring:
Provide tier2 and tier3 level support of incidents escalated by analysts and CSOC interns. Educate and mentor junior CSOC staff to enable them to learn and advance their Information Security abilities. Maintain a positive working environment.
10% - Essential - Research:
Maintain situational awareness of the latest cyber security threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies. Review and develop detection rules and capabilities to prevent and detect the most relevant threats to the university.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education - Bachelor's Degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field 

Work Experience - Experience in information technology systems or related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

 

Experience - Experience working in Security monitoring and intrusion detection; security assessments and penetration testing; incident response.

Certifications (Desired, but Not Required) - Security +

No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  10% - Overnight Travel
  25%- Employee will be expected to respond to situations during non-normal university operating hours.  Participation with on-call rotational duties within the group will be expected.  There will be some expected travel with this position.  

WORK SCHEDULE:

 

Standard Hours: 37.5 / Hours

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Expected Salary Range: ($ 79,600.00 - $ 143,300.00)
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
