LANGUAGE & INTERNATIONAL HEALTH (SPANISH, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OR RANK OPEN)
Clemson, SCThe Clemson University Department of Languages is seeking an interdisciplinary scholar of language, humanities, and global health to join our Language and International Health (LIH) program with a start date of August 15, 2025. This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with linguistic competence in Spanish. The department is also interested in considering candidates who are more advanced in their careers. With over 100 majors, LIH pairs core courses in advanced humanities in a target language (with tracks in Spanish, French, and Chinese) with public and global health (through the Department of Public Health Sciences). We are also seeking a candidate with an interest and the potential to become the future director of this successful and growing program.
The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the program in several ways: teaching in-language courses for health professionals focused on human body systems, disease, community health, etc.; creating potential courses in health humanities; teaching courses related to culture and healthcare in the Spanish-speaking world; developing curricula; establishing sustainable partnerships abroad; future directorship of the program; collaboration with the Department of Public Health and other campus communities.
Field of research is flexible but must have relevance to the position: the ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in fields such as health humanities; global health delivery; global health equity; community-based health programs; narrative medicine; human rights; health, environment, and the arts; sustainability; or other related subjects.
