OPEN RANK TENURE OR NON-TENURE FACULTY - MICROBIOLOGY AND INFECTIOUS DISEASES, HARVEY S. PEELER JR. COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE
Clemson, SCThe new Clemson University Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (PCVM) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to lead the development and implementation of course materials relevant to veterinary infectious diseases, with a focus on microbiology/virology within the diseased animal curriculum of the DVM program. The primary responsibilities of this position are focused on teaching and curriculum development. Research and clinical microbiology services are not required for this position but are encouraged and will be discussed with the department chair, based upon interest. Academic rank is commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date for this appointment will be approximately July 1, 2026.
The faculty member will play a vital role in developing and delivering the second-year veterinary curriculum for the CVM. The Diseased Animal course series are team-taught course focusing on disease pathogenesis in domestic animal species, including pathology, microbiology, virology, parasitology, and toxicology. Utilizing the classroom, microscopy lab, live animals, and teaching technology, this faculty member will work collaboratively with other faculty and staff to provide students with an applied and clinical science-based education in these areas, preparing them to progress into more advanced coursework. The content in this course series will align with the coursework occurring simultaneously in the Clinical Skills and Professional Development courses in the second year of the DVM program, and will build on the Healthy Animal course series from year 1. This faculty member will help ensure students achieve the necessary milestones in all pre-clinical competencies, according to the American Veterinary Medicine Association’s (AVMA) Competency-Based Veterinary Education (CBVE) framework.
Reporting to the Department Chair and working closely with the Foundational Sciences Lead and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Infectious Disease Faculty will:
• Create and deliver the infectious disease curriculum in the team-taught systems-based Diseased Animal course series, with a focus on microbiology and virology.
• Contribute to teaching other relevant courses in the curriculum, including but not limited to internal medicine, clinical skills, and professional development.
• Aid in the development of the Clemson CVM microbiology lab policies and procedures.
• Develop assessment strategies in alignment with the overall competency-based curriculum.
• Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure integration of knowledge and skills across years and courses.
• Actively and effectively engage in student-centered instruction, coaching, and mentorship.
• Aid in the procurement of state-of-the-art teaching equipment related to microscopy.
• Serve on CVM and campus committees, as appointed or elected.

Overview of Clemson and the CVM
The CVM has received a letter of reasonable assurance from the AVMA-Council on Education to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and will admit the first class of 80 students in 2026. The CVM plans to utilize a semi-distributive model of clinical training for students. Its brand-new, state-of-the-art campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T. Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.
