JOB SUMMARY:

 

Perform poultry health program activities. Monitor poultry at farms and concentration points for compliance with intrastate and interstate movement regulations, disease control standards, animal identification, premises identification and other related activities. Examine and collect disease surveillance samples and other duties as assigned. Headquartered in the Columbia area, SC. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

60% - Essential - Disease Monitoring and Prevention: Perform inspections, disease program sampling, and other activities for SC National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) participating flocks throughout the state. Monitor the requirements and interstate movement of poultry (and livestock at public auction markets, miscellaneous sales, and exhibitions, when needed); and assist field veterinarians in handling animals, collecting samples and performing tests. Attend meetings and trainings deemed necessary for performance of activities and assist in preparing for meetings and trainings performed by our department. Perform or assist with animal depopulation, disposal, cleaning, and disinfection procedures as part of disease control.
20% - Essential - Reporting: Prepare and maintain paper and electronic database records, official correspondence and reports for disease and traceability programs, which may include investigations an activities to support decisions and actions taken by the Department Director to implement corrective and educational actions initiated by compliance and inspector duties.
10% - Essential - Investigations and Enforcement: Serve as a primary investigator when violations of the poultry and livestock laws, rules and regulations are suspected. Work with the SC NPIP State Inspector, Livestock Law Enforcement Officers and magistrates to enforce laws. Search for violators, quarantine and carry out other procedures in connection with SC livestock laws and
regulations.
5% - Essential - Management: Conduct surveys, issue quarantine, and monitor quarantines in connection with disease outbreaks and regulatory programs. Explain existing laws and regulations. Supervise and assist with animal and premise identification, including the Animal Disease Traceability Plan.
5% - Essential - Emergency Duties: Perform activities and emergency positions as designated as part of Emergency Support Function-17 and LPH animal disease responses. Attend meetings and trainings necessary to perform these duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education -  High School or Equivalent
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000
Work Experience 0+ years

Cannot have any poultry or pet birds at home or have contact with these birds outside of this job due to biosecurity requirements.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education - Bachelor's Degree

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Expected Salary Range: $ 33,339.00 - $ 51,323.00
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Essential Level 2 employee
Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
