JOB SUMMARY:

 

Performs electrical and related duties requiring both routine and advanced levels of professional skill and technical knowledge. Provides training and mentorship to apprentice level employees. Performs preventative and corrective electrical maintenance on building systems in accordance with department procedures and applicable codes and laws.  Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

55% - Essential - Electrical Systems: Installs, repairs, and maintains various electrical wiring systems and equipment. Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, and repairs single and 3-phase up to 600 volts. Uses appropriate troubleshooting test procedures and equipment, such as volt-ohm meter, and tracing circuits in rooms and buildings to isolate problems. Tests and changes failed circuit breakers.  Changes bulbs, ballasts, switches and receptacles after verifying failure. Measures current flow (Amps) to verify proper motor operation. Tests emergency lighting and battery systems.
20% - Essential - Electrical Construction: Understands and interprets construction drawings (blueprints) needed to perform required electrical tasks and review of projects. Lays out and installs electrical conduit, switches, receptacles, lights and other electrical equipment.
10% - Essential - Training and Mentorship: Leads, guides, and/or trains other electricians in applicable procedures and techniques. Completes the required training and testing to maintain applicable licensing.
10% - Essential - Work Area Maintenance: Prepares and cleans work areas, shop and vehicles.  Identifies and gathers proper tools and materials and ensures proper housekeeping.
5% - Essential - Safety: Promotes a safe workplace and safe work practices. Complies with all applicable OSHA safety mandates and enforcement of University LOTO policy. Complies with all NEC rules and regulations, completing all relevant training. Promotes positive and productive relationships within and between shops.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: A high school diploma and experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: Vocational or Technical Training; Trade School Diploma or five years of experience at Clemson in electrical
 

Licenses - Plumber - Journeyman
 

Work Experience: 5+ years

No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

WORK SCHEDULE:

 

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am -4:00pm, occasional weekends and subject to callbacks.  Standard Hours: 40

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Expected Salary Range: ($39,764 - $45,125)
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
