JOB SUMMARY:

 

Creates a positive impression of Clemson Libraries by providing exemplary customer services. Responds to information and research questions & refers in-depth questions to appropriate employees. Circulates library materials, equipment, & resources. Serves as backup to chat. Position is Tuesday-Saturday during regular academic semesters; hours may vary. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

55% - Essential - Customer Services and Library Integrated System:
Provides courteous information and research services at library services desk.  Answers informational, research, and basic technology questions and refers in-depth questions to appropriate persons.  Records interactions and statistics for assessment.  Provides assistance with circulating technology equipment, copiers, scanners, and microfilm reader.  Stays aware of and applies library policies and procedures.  Routes escalated concerns to manager. Routes materials to appropriate departments. Handles special requests. Process payments accurately.
20% - Essential - Department Support and Area Backup:
Provides backup support as required to include (not limited to): provide support and assistance for technology lending collection, assist with technology troubleshooting and/or repair, assist with technology item record creations, inventory, and updates, process physical reserves, assist with security desk coverage and rounds, answer and route Libanswers inquiries, approve study room and classroom bookings. Collaborates and assists with large scale projects, such as shifting, journal relocations, paging, and stacks maintenance.
15% - Essential - Virtual Information and Research Support:
Answers informational and research questions online through chat, email, and in-person using designated software. Records statistics for assessment, refers higher tier research questions to subject specialists as needed while connecting patrons with available resources. Provide feedback to unit director and Head of Teaching & Learning regarding peak hours and complexity of questions answered.
5% - Essential - Weekend Facility and Emergency Support:  Serves as point of contact for weekend contract security: documents staffing, assists with training, and serves as liaison for security & facility issues. Coordinates any weekend concerns with unit director. Submits facilities tickets as needed for weekend concerns. Participates in unit safety/emergency training; carries out duties as needed.
5% - Essential - Compliance, Safety, and Training:
Complies with University, State, and Federal requirements. Maintains and safe and secure environment. Participates in staff development such as training, workshops, and webinars related to job functions or in order to increase knowledge of the Libraries or University. Participates in Libraries or University service initiatives and serves on Unit working groups and Libraries task forces or committees as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education -  High School or Equivalent - and relevant library experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for work experience.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education -  Associate's Degree
Work Experience -  1+ years of experience in customer service, and utilizing computers for research and library resources.

No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

Standard Hours: 37.5

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Anticipated Hiring Range: $32,700 - $41,000
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
