JOB SUMMARY:
Clemson University's Research Computing and Data Team is looking for a Systems Programmer/Developer IV to fulfill the following duties:
- Serve as a key member of the RCD Infrastructure team.
- Research, design, develop, test, and maintain High Performance Computing (HPC) file systems, storage software stacks, storage hardware stacks, and interconnectivity between storage and other systems in Clemson's Research Computing and Data Infrastructure (RCDI).
- Assist RCDI team members when required with other RCDI technologies including networking, operating systems, systems and applications software, hardware, security, and cluster management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
50% - Essential - Storage Systems:
Assist in testing, deploying, maintaining, monitoring, and documenting RCDI's storage systems. Ensure that the systems are always available to users, except during a planned maintenance windows. Restore files as needed from snapshots or backups. Replace bad disks as needed. Ensure that system software is up to date, and are performing as expected. Provision storage to faculty and staff as required.
25% - Essential - Development:
Provide support to internal RCD staff for storage system integrations with other systems and services. Design and build tools to provide insights and data to both users and administrators. Leverage APIs and other tools to automate tasks and simplify workflows.
10% - Essential - Research:
Keep informed of current storage technologies and help evaluate potential usage in Clemson's research computing and data infrastructure to deliver the best storage solutions possible to match the needs of the research community.
10% - Essential - Collaboration:
Communicate and cooperate with RCDI team members in installing, maintaining, updating, trouble shooting, and documenting HPC and RCDI hardware and software to ensure the HPC cluster and related RCDI projects are functioning well.
5% - Essential - On-Call:
Participate in the RCDI on-call rotation, which requires on-call 24 hours per day for 7 days at a time.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a related area
Work Experience - Experience in computer system development and modification. Relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Work Experience - 1+ Years of systems administration with a focus on Linux

WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hours: 37.5 Hours / Week
COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Expected Salary Range: ($ 69,764.00 - $ 116,674.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
