JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Community Director is a full-time live-in staff member of University Housing and Dining within the Division of Finance and Operations. Manages a residential area (approximately 600-1000 students) and works with the specific needs of assigned population through a residential curriculum model. Supervises graduate and undergraduate paraprofessional staff in the creation of a residential community environment. Partners with Finance and Operations, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

35% - Essential - Residential Education: Implements residential curriculum (designs & implements community plan with specific learning goals/outcomes). Advises community council student leaders to enhance leadership and advocacy for residential community. Collaborates with academic and Student Affairs partners, including Faculty-in-Residence, Faculty Friends, etc. in assigned community. Works with assigned Living-Learning Community(ies). Works with community liaison(s) to enhance community. Facilitates an environment of academic excellence and cultural awareness. Knowledgeable of specific student population served. Has a baseline knowledge of assessment.
25% - Essential - Leadership: Supervises Graduate Assistant(s), Resident Assistants, and Desk Assistants. Provides expectations and accountability for staff; evaluates staff. Leads staff meetings. Manages KRONOS (timecard approval system). Creates and implements training and development curriculum for Resident Assistants. Assists with curriculum development and instruction of EDSA 3900: Student Development, Leadership, & Counseling for new RAs. Assists in recruiting undergraduate, graduate, & full-time staff. Upholds fair recruitment practices, ensuring recruitment of a diverse staff. Participates in annual training sessions of full-time, graduate, and undergraduate staff.
5% - Essential - Housing Administration and Management: Follows up on student maintenance and custodial needs. Assesses and addresses building needs, as well as planning for furniture needs, space use, etc. Meets with students to provide coaching and mediation for shared living space; Facilitates staff approved room change process (as needed). Facilitates opening and closing of residential community. Manages keys. Manages budget expenditures for assigned budget and follows procurement and purchasing guidelines. Serves on department, division or University committees.
20% - Essential - Judicial Administration: Receives and reviews all incident reports to ensure accuracy and proper documentation. Meets with students in role as conduct hearing officer to address behavior and impact to persons and the community; adjudicates University Housing violations (and Code of Conduct violations, as applicable). Investigates individual and communal billing reports and assigns fines and sanctions. Ensures staff understands, upholds, and enforces University policies and procedures. Implements sanctions and monitors progress of students. Participates in student organizational cases.
15% - Essential - Crisis Management and Student Care: Serves in weekly on-call rotation at first level of full-time staff response for all on-campus students. Makes decisions related to facility and student emergencies. Provides support to undergraduate and graduate staff levels of on-call. Identifies and addresses safety and security issues in residential areas. Partners with and provides assistance to CUPD. Manages CARE for assigned students in conjunction with the Office of Advocacy & Success, providing support and referral, and appropriately documenting interactions. Assist Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) with crisis management, and implementation of programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education -  1st Bachelor's Degree - and experience in student services programs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises Work of Others - Supervises work of others and may offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments but does not have responsibility for making these decisions.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides Budget Input - Provides input into the budgeting process, and oversees fund allocation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  10% - Overnight Travel

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Expected Salary Range: ($ 38,985.00 - $ 43,050.00)
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
