JOB SUMMARY:
Enforces State, County, and Municipal laws, rules, and regulations for the protection and security of persons and property of Clemson University. Performs other duties as assigned.
Note: Law Enforcement Officer I & II will be assigned commensurate with experience and qualifications.
JOB DUTIES:
45% - Essential - LAW ENFORCEMENT:
Patrols assigned area to detect violations and enforce State, County and Municipal laws, rules and regulations for the protection and security of persons and property of Clemson University. Directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Installs and removes traffic control devices as needed. Issues summons and takes enforcement action when needed. Participates in traffic safety programs and initiatives. Exercises arrest powers as appropriate. Completes booking reports, fingerprints and photographs. Responds to disturbances, performs investigations, collects evidence and completes reports. Ability to work flexible schedules - day and/or night, rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, special events - based on the needs of the department.
25% - Essential - Investigating and Crime Scene Management:
Investigates complaints and interviews victims, witnesses, and participants. Photographs and sketches crime scenes. Collects evidence and informs superiors. Works field incidents to completion and conducts investigation follow ups as needed.
20% - Essential - Civic Responsibilities:
Performs duties associated with crime prevention. Assists disabled motorists. Reports safety hazards, prepares police reports and other activity reports. Conducts public outreach/engagement activities. Practices modern, community-oriented policing concepts and supports the CUPD/Residential Life Housing Liaison and CUPD Affinity Group Liason programs.
10% - Essential - Administrative Support:
Prepares cases for court presentation. Presents cases in the Clemson University Municipal Court. Forwards documents for Circuit Court cases to the Solicitor's Office and testifies in court.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - High School or Equivalent
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal
Work Exp 0-3+ years
Must pass a background investigation.
Must obtain Class I LEO Certification from the SC Criminal Justice Academy within 1 year from hire date.
Must complete department Police Training Officer (PTO) Program within 1 year from hire date.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - 1st Associate's Degree
SCCJA Class I LEO Certification

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

The multi-function job duties of law enforcement require personnel to perform all of the above checked duties for varying lengths of time, often combining multiple physical requirements at the same time in the performance of duty.

Law Enforcement requires personnel perform their duties in a wide variety of occupational hazards and working environments. Ability to work flexible schedules - day and/or night, rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, special events - based on the needs of the department.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Salary Range: $ 52,147.50 - $ 60,366.99
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Essential Level 1 employee
Required to respond during an emergency closure or modified operations in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
