JOB SUMMARY:
The Systems Administrator for Research Grants is a vital role within the Division of Research, responsible for managing desktop software systems and providing comprehensive IT support for InfoEd and other research-related applications. This position supports strategic technology planning, troubleshooting, and resolving IT-related hardware and software concerns. The role requires a meticulous approach, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to customer service. The Systems Administrator ensures the effective implementation of institutional IT policies and provides support to a diverse range of research units, enhancing the university's research capabilities.
JOB DUTIES:
40% - Essential - System Administration Support:
Provide end-to-end support for InfoEd and related research grant applications, ensuring system reliability and performance. Troubleshoot and resolve complex IT issues, minimizing downtime for research staff. Manage software updates, patches, and system upgrades in alignment with institutional policies. Provide technical training and support to end users to maximize system utilization and efficiency.
30% - Essential - Technology Support:
Serve as the primary Technology Support Provider (TSP) for key research and administrative units, including the Vice President for Research, Electronic Research Administration, Office of Industry Contracts, Export Control and Research Security, Grants and Contracts Administration, Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of Research Development, Business Affairs, Clemson Light Imaging Facility, Electronic Microscope Facility, Animal Resource Facility, and Aquatic Animal Lab. Provide supplementary IT support to additional research units, such as Research Compliance, Clemson University Research Foundation, and Research Safety. Install, configure, and maintain end user computing systems and peripheral devices to support research operations in accordance with CCIT policy and procedure. Diagnose and resolve issues with desktop hardware, including printers, monitors, and other peripherals. Support use of remote work tools by staff. Collaborate with stakeholders to provide technical expertise and ensure seamless desktop support alongside enterprise systems for research staff. Perform other duties as assigned to support the Division of Research's mission and strategic objectives. Includes some travel to outlying offices around the Clemson area.
25% - Essential - Process Improvement:
Evaluate existing IT processes and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and user experience. Develop and implement strategies for proactive system maintenance and issue prevention. Stay informed on emerging technologies and trends to identify opportunities for innovation within the Division of Research.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align IT processes with institutional goals and research priorities.
5% - Essential - Customer service focus:
Foster a customer-focused environment by delivering timely, effective, and empathetic IT support.
Act as a liaison between research units and IT services to address unique needs and challenges.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders through clear communication and consistent follow-up on service requests. Continuously solicit feedback from users to improve IT services and support.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - High School or Equivalent and experience in office automation systems, data communications system design, installation, operation, repair, sales or marketing, or processing of information in a data processing environment or related systems.
Work Experience - 4+ years
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Associate's Degree in information technology or related computer field
Work Experience with PC and hardware systems management

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Expected Salary Range ($ 46,700.00 - $ 77,300.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
